## Hockey Scores, Week 11

I was talked into this because I was(apparently) doing so well. I'm rather disappointed now. *harrumph*

## Hello world!

Welcome to Scientopia Blogs. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

## Grrl's BIG NEWS

Grrl and I are in the offices of The Guardian. We're here because Grrl starts her new science blogging gig here - yup, she now has a blog at The Grauniad. She's been very good keeping quiet about this in public, but privately she's been incredibly excited, and also getting very stressed.

The blog is called Punctuated Equilibrium. Grrl intends to move her mystery birds over there, as well as some of her other writings, but she'll continue to write here, don't worry.

## Wi-Fi Diner

GrrlScientist is a big fan of Edward Hopper. I'm just a small fan. When we first met in London two years ago, we developed the game of looking for wifi, and preferably sockets too. So I think she'll like this...

Free Wi-Fi

Oops, I didn't mean to publish this.

*ahem*

I was using this because I wanted some equations, and Nature Network doesn't (yet) have LaTeX.

Might as well make this an open comment thread - say what you will. Tell us how you are liking Scientopia so far. Or start a game of Mornington Crescent. Or just write nothing.

## The Truth Re-Revealed

(this is a re-post of something I wrote a couple of years ago. I've tidied it up, and kept the obscure joke, only after spending a minute trying to work out what the hell I was on about)

On the way home this evening I was musing about quantum mechanics. Now, I know little more than a layman, but I know enough to be aware that nobody really understands it. It struck me that it must have destroyed several promising academic careers - for someone with an analytical mind, it looks like something that you don't understand, but if you just learn a little more, and try to put the different bits together then eventually the penny will drop and it will all become clear.

## Scientia Pro Publica Needs Your Writing!

## The Natural Methods of ID

One of my guilty pleasures is reading Uncommon Descent (UD), the Intelligent Design blog started by William Dembski, and now mainly written by some of the lesser lights of the ID crowd. Now, ID is fundamentally of course an attempt to insert Creationism into science, without mentioning that the designer is the Christian god.

## Managing Your OnLine Presence with a Personal Landing Page

Do any of you have a landing page? After discussing business cards for teh blags with my colleagues, I decided the easiest way to keep everyone up-to-date with my writing, photography and other projects is to have an personal landing page (PLP)!
